Killochries Fold, based near Kilmacolm to the west of Glasgow, has been breeding Highland cattle since 1995 and has spent decades on careful genetic selection, breeding from only the best cattle producing easy-calvers, good mothers, well-natured breeding stock, and beef that is second to none. Killochries Highland beef is enjoyed at the finest restaurants in the country, including Gleneagles.
Killochries also runs a pedigree Shorthorn herd with equally strict breeding criteria. The Shorthorn herd is based at nearby Drumcross farm and a XShorthorn program delivers all the hardy qualities of the Highlanders, but with the added size of the Shorthorn. Shieldaig Croft, based in the northwest Highlands of Scotland, extends over some 1000 acres and is run by Iain & Sheena's daughter and her husband. Shieldaig runs a fold of HiHealth accredited pedigree Highland cattle, all of which derive from the Killochries Fold stock. The conditions on the land are harsh and the cattle thrive on the rough ground - Highlanders in their natural element, wintering and calving on the hill. The stock bull for Shieldaig is Balgay Highland Pass, producing fabulous Xshorthorn calves. For more information, please contact www.shieldaigcroft.com. The first batch of XShorthorn were sold to Balgay and the next batch will be taken to Dingwall Market in Spring.
